Fultonville, NY - 2006 Oswego Speedway Super Modified Track Champion Otto Sitterly cut his teeth in racing on the dirt ovals of Central New York driving a 4 cylinder Ford Mustang so it only made sense when it came time for his son Nathan to get behind the wheel, it would be in the Cruiser division, aboard a Ford Mustang.
Bruce Liddle and Sitterly would lead the Cruiser division to the green flag with Liddle jumping out the early lead. Starting 9th and 10th respectively Kerry Hollenbeck and defending Cruiser Track Champion Laurie Fallis would be on the move. Hollenbeck, whose domination of the class prompted a Bounty for anyone that could beat him by track videographer Tom Czaban and RacinVideos.com would fall in behind Fallis as he made his patented charge to the front. Fallis would make her way past Sitterly into the second spot and 1 lap later Hollenbeck would follow suit taking over the third spot. Fallis would next set her sites on Liddle who's car had started to slow. Fallis would swing past Liddle on the outside of turn 2 while Hollenbeck followed suit in turn 3. Liddle's strong run would come to an end as his yellow number 47 would lost a wheel setting up a 1 lap shootout to the finish. Hollenbeck would get the jump on Fallis pulling even on the outside as they raced to turn 1. Fallis could not hold the bottom line off turn 2 as she made contact with Hollenbeck opening the door for Sitterly to slip past. Sitterly would go on to take his first career victory in his rookie season. Following him across the line was Jamie Warner, Heather King, Eric Bonney and Hollenbeck. Fallis would finish 13th after the contact.
Randy Cosselman and Shannon McDermott led the Street Stock feature with Cosselman taking the early lead. Dave Bayes was on the charge from his 4th place starting spot as he would look to the outside of Cosselman off turn 2. Cosselman would catch the inside burn in turn 3 setting off a chain reaction accident that collected up Bayes, Jason Samrov, and Chuck McSpirit. After the yellow Rob VanAernam would assume the lead and start to stretch the lead. Back in the back defending champion Dave Horning Sr. was on the move as he picked his way to the second spot with Justin Knight hot on his heels. VanAernam's mount would start to falter with a tire going flat as Horning and Knight closed in. VanAernam's tire could not hold out giving the lead to Horning on the final lap. Horning would take the victory followed by Knight, VanAernam, Darrel Older, and Chuck McSpirit.
Steve Douglas would take the early lead in the Budget Sportsman feature but Alex Alberti was on the charge. Alberti would take the top spot and start to draw away. Jeremiah Munson would make his way through the field from his 7th place starting spot to pressure Alberti. The veteran runner would make his way past the rookie into the top spot and cruiser to the victory. Alberti would be second followed by Korey Wilder, Joe Ketchum, and Angela Hoard.
Richie Price and Joe Carnibucci would lead the Modified field to the green with Price taking the early lead. Price would face immediate pressure from Randy Hotaling. Hotaling would use the top side of the speedway to slip past price into the top spot. Erik Nelson was making his way through the field into the third spot and would apply pressure to price. Nelson would look to the low side of Price in turn 3 but would clip the infield sending his car around and ending his strong run as he retired pitside. Jeff Brownell Jr. was on the move as he settled into the second spot and started to give chase of Hotaling while back in the pack Floyd Billington was charging around the outside after an early pit stop. Billington would look under Brownell but run out of time as Hotaling would cruise to the victory. Brownell would be second followed by Billington, Mike Ketchum, and Paul Kinney.
The 2008 season continues next Friday, July 4th, with the Firecracker 40 for the Modifieds and the Firecracker 30 for the Budget Sportsman. Both classes will have an open tire rule for the evening with $1500 on the line for the modified winner and $100 to take the green flag while the Budgets will race for $400 to win.
